Our aim is to provide a safe, stimulating and relaxed environment where each child can develop and establish skills for lifelong learning through exploration and play.

Since 1975, Seaford Heights Pre-school has been educating children in the local community.

The preschool is managed by a volunteer parent committee and employs qualified and experienced educators to plan and implement the curriculum.

We offer 3 year old & 4 year old kindergarten programs.

Our Mission

At Seaford Heights Preschool our goal is to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment, a place where children, families and educators can learn and grow together, guiding each other to create the best outcomes for children.

We value the input of educators, children and their families and the wider community.  We endeavour to acknowledge everyone's skills, knowledge, ideas, understandings, culture and views.

There is an emphasis on developing and maintaining strong relationships between children, families, educators and the community to ensure that all members of the preschool contribute to the best of their ability and have a sense of belonging.  The preschool aims to work in partnerhsip with families, building an atmosphere of community within the preschool.

Why learning through play?

Current research in early childhood education suggests that children learn best through play. For this reason educators strive to provide children with long periods of uninterrupted play where children can explore their environment, manipulate materials and interact with adults and peers to gain understanding of their world and facilitate their learning.

The preschool provides experiences and opportunities that promote both structured and unstructured play.  Our kindergarten programs facilitate learning through play by:

  • Communicating with and observing children educators guide children’s learning and challenge their thinking, taking into account each child’s identity, learning style and abilities.

  • Curriculum is based on the Early Years Learning and Development Framework taking into account children’s knowledge, interests and developmental needs as well as local and current events.

  • The curriculum has a mixture of child initiated, adult led ,adult guided and spontaneous learning opportunities.

  • Educators document children’s learning to develop an understanding of each child, to guide future curriculum development and to share with children and families.

OUR PLAY BASED CURRICULUM:

  • Allows for long periods of uninterrupted play; time to allow  children to develop play and themes

  • Is presented so resources and materials are inviting to children and encourage exploration, learning and inquiry.

  • Includes developing warm and trusting relationships that allow children to feel secure and supported in the learning environment and encourage strong peer relationships

  • Encourages child led experiences as well as incorporating intentional teaching.

The preschool curriculum is based on the Early Learning Years Learning and Development Framework.  The framework addresses 5 key areas that are essential for children's learning and development:

  • Identity

  • Community

  • Well Being

  • Learning

  • Communication

These learning areas form the basis of the preschool curriculum and Seaford Heights Preschool plans a play-based curriculum on individual and group needs and interests.  There is a range of child directed, teacher initiated, teacher guided and incidental learning activities that take place every day.  The curriculum is documented for parents to read and available at any time.

Both my children went to Seaford Heights and both adored their teachers. They left with fond memories and confidence to start school
